What are Lab Created Diamonds?
Lab created diamonds, or synthetic diamonds, are real diamonds cultured in a laboratory. These diamonds are also known as cultured diamonds or laboratory-grown diamonds. They are made from the exact same material as diamonds – namely, carbon atoms. They are not cubic zirconia or any other kind of “fake” diamond.
Lab diamonds are cultured using one of two methods. The first is High-Pressure, High-Temperature (HPHT). The second is Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD). These processes were developed back in the 1940s by the United States, the Soviet Union, and Sweden. Despite which way they are cultured, lab diamonds are thought to be superior to mined diamonds based on hardness, electron mobility, etc.
Today, buyers seek out jewelry made with lab cultured diamonds in order to find a stone that meets their exact requirements and ethical standards. Lab diamonds are graded and certified using the same systems as traditional diamonds.
